KIPPRA participated in a meeting for the taskforce on implementing presidential directive on sharing of revenue from national parks between the National and County Governments on 1st November 2023. The meeting was chaired by Taita Taveta Governor, H.E Andrew Mwadime, and PS Wildife, Ms Silvia Museiya. The Institute was represented by Principal Policy Analyst, Mr Nahashon Mwongera and Senior Policy Analyst, Dr James Ochieng’.

This is part of the ongoing efforts by both levels of government to finalize the transfer of powers and simplify execution by both levels of government as well as resolve concerns of human-wildlife conflicts, community engagement, and income and benefit sharing. The teams will begin the main tasks, including stakeholder engagement and in-depth analysis, in order to create a framework that will guide the implementation.
The State Department of Wildlife, Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), Council of Governors (CoG), National Treasury, and Taita Taveta County are represented on the technical team.
