KIPPRA Plants Trees to Support Government Reforestation Initiative

KIPPRA, in collaboration with Wildlife Research and Training Institute (KWSTI), planted 1,000 trees at Naivasha Game Farm on 29th April 2023. This is in addition to another 1,000 indigenous trees planted by staff in 2020 in the one-acre piece of land allocated to KIPPRA by KWSTI under the “adopt a forest initiative”. The tree planting exercise was led by KIPPRA Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and WRTI CEO Dr Patrick Omondi who was represented by Acting Deputy Principal, Mr James Wachira.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ngugi noted that KIPPRA is committed to supporting the government reforestation initiative, adding that the Institute is not planting the trees but will also nurture, care for them and ensure that they grow healthy and strong.

On his part, Mr Wachira thanked KIPPRA for supporting the tree planting initiative and promised to avail more land for the Institute to grow more trees. He noted that WRTI plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable wildlife conservation and management in Kenya and beyond and offers training courses in wildlife ecology and conservation, biodiversity monitoring, habitat management, and wildlife tourism.

The tree-planting was part of KIPPRA’s team building exercise, which took place in Naivasha over the weekend..
