KIPRRA hosted the Mentorship Programme for Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) on 6th– 7th March 2024 at Sigalagala National Polytechnic. The theme for the event was Kenya’s Transformation Agenda Since Independence and Future Projection. The event was graced by Governor Kakamega County, H.E Fernandes Barasa, Economic Planning Secretary, Mr Timothy Gakuu, KIPPRA Board Chair Prof Benson Ateng’, Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and Sigalagala National Polytechnic Chief Principal Mr Evans Bosire.
Prof. Ateng’ noted that the country has a potential through its youth to propel itself to the future and challenged the students to present papers at the KARC. Dr Ngugi noted that the program aims to capacity build the youth to be able to participate in the development agenda and public policy dialogue. The Governor lauded KIPPRA for the gallant effort in awareness creation and developing the capacities of the youth in public policy making process.
During the event, KIPPRA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sigalagala National Polytechnic on mutual areas of collaboration in public policy research and analysis. The signing ceremony of the MOU was attended by KIPPRA Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and Sigalagala National Polytechnic Chief Principal Mr Evans Bosire.
Some of the areas include research, attachments/internships and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Additionally, students participated in a panel discussion on the youth transformation agenda. The session was moderated by Senior Policy Analyst, Dr. Irene Nyamu. There was further a panel discussion on pioneering progress, envisioning excellence in innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth.
The two-day event brought together participants from the national and county governments, state agencies and civil society.
