KIPPRA joins Kenya Think Tanks Forum in hosting 3rd Kenya Think Tanks Symposium

KIPPRA joined Kenya Think Tanks Forum in hosting the 3rd Kenya Think Tanks Symposium. Themed “ Empowering Africa for Climate Change Action”. The symposium which was held on 28th April 2022 in Nairobi discussed the impact of climate change on food security in Africa, deliberated on the viable options for climate change financing in Africa and stimulated discourse on Africa-centred solutions to climate change.

The event which brought together Kenya Think Tanks, representatives from ministries, parastatals, county governments and non-governmental organizations was graced by KIPPRA Board Chair Dr Benson Ateng’, KIPPRA Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi, KIPPRA Board members and representative of PS State Department for Planning Mr Zachary Mwangi who is also KIPPRA Board member.

Speaking at the symposium KIPPRA Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi underscored the important role the Think Tanks Symposium plays in policy formulation as it provides an opportunity to convene stakeholders in the policy arena to discuss policy issues and contribute to the solutions to be adopted by the government.

Discussions at the symposium centred on restoring Africa’s food security in the wake of climate change, climate change financing for Africa’s future, impact of climate change on Africa’s public health, balancing the burden and benefits of climate action and mitigating the impact of climate change on peace, security and development.

Dr Channing Arndt, Director at The International Food Policy Research Institute makes a presentation on restoring Africa’s food security in the wake of climate change at the symposium.

In his closing remarks KIPPRA Board Chair Dr Benson Ateng’ thanked all participants who attended the symposium and noted that the practical solutions discussed at the symposium once adopted will strengthen Africa’s response to climate change.
