KIPPRA Mentorship Programme for Universities and TVETs at Laikipia University

KIPPRA hosted the KIPPRA Mentorship Programme for Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETS) on the 20th– 21st September at Laikipia University. The theme for the event was Kenya’s Transformation Agenda Since Independence and Future Projection. The event was graced by the KIPPRA Board Chair Prof Benson Ateng’, KIPPRA’s Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and Laikipia University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kibett Rotich.

Prof. Ateng’ noted that the country has a potential through its youth to propel itself to a prosperous future. Prof Ateng’ further challenged the students to present papers at the 7th KIPPRA Annual Regional Conference (KARC). Dr Ngugi noted that the program aims to capacity build the youth to be able to participate in the development agenda and public policy dialogue. Prof. Rotich lauded KIPPRA for the gallant effort in awareness creation and developing the capacities of the university students, lecturers and community in public policy making process. Also present were the Director, Corporate Services, Ms Irene Mithia and Director, Economic Management, Dr Eldah Onsomu.

KIPPRA further signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Laikipia University during the event on mutual areas of collaboration in public policy research and analysis. The signing ceremony of the MOU was attended by KIPPRA Board Chair Prof. Benson Ateng’, Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and Laikipia University Vice Chancellor Prof Kibett Rotich. Also present were the Deputy VC, Dean of Students, and KIPPRA staff.

Some of the areas include research, attachments/internships and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Additionally, students participated in a panel discussion on the youth transformation agenda. The session was moderated by Senior Policy Analyst, Mr. Victor Mose. There was further a panel discussion on pioneering progress, envisioning excellence in innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth.
