KIPPRA recently concluded an intensive training on Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Modelling for its research staff. The online training, which took place from 29th May to 17th June 2025, was facilitated by experts from the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission.
CGE modelling is a powerful analytical tool widely used in policy research to assess the economic impact of policy interventions, trade dynamics, climate change, taxation, and public expenditure, among others. With Kenya navigating complex economic policy challenges, enhancing KIPPRA’s capabilities in this area is timely and crucial.
The training programme provided a comprehensive introduction to the theory and application of CGE models, blending economic theory with practical hands-on simulations. It covered key topics such as the structure and calibration of CGE models, policy simulation techniques, and interpretation of results for real-world policy contexts.
