KIPPRA Signs MoU with Prospect Peace Institute Africa

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Prospect Peace Institute Africa (PPI) on 3rd July 2025, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration in research, policy dialogue, capacity building, and peace and security initiatives across Kenya — with a special focus on the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).

The MoU was signed by KIPPRA Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu, and PPI Executive Chairman, Lt. General (Rtd) Adan Mulata, at a ceremony held at KIPPRA offices in Nairobi.

Speaking during the signing, Dr. Onsomu underscored the importance of partnerships in advancing evidence-based policy research and promoting inclusive development. She noted that peace and stability are critical enablers of sustainable economic growth, particularly in regions that face recurrent challenges such as resource scarcity, conflict, and climate change.

“This collaboration with PPI provides an opportunity to deepen research and policy engagement on issues that directly impact communities in the ASAL regions. Through joint efforts, we aim to generate knowledge that supports peacebuilding, resilience, and inclusive growth,” said Dr. Onsomu.

On his part, Lt. General (Rtd) Adan Mulata expressed optimism that the partnership will provide a platform for both institutions to contribute to Kenya’s peace and security agenda through policy-oriented research and capacity-building initiatives.

“Prospect Peace Institute Africa is committed to advancing peace and stability by promoting dialogue, research, and partnerships. Our collaboration with KIPPRA will enable us to translate research into action, supporting both local and national efforts towards lasting peace and development,” said Gen. Mulata.

The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation including joint research projects, policy seminars and conferences, training and capacity development programmes, and collaboration on peace and security initiatives that address emerging policy challenges.
