KIPPRA, in collaboration with RESET Kenya, held a stakeholder roundtable and validation workshop focusing on alcohol policy reforms in Kenya on April 16th, 2024 and 13th September 2024, respectively. The meetings were meant to get stakeholder views on the study, which is aimed at championing effective alcohol policies with a focus on alcohol taxation as an effective intervention for reducing consumption. The study focused on a situational analysis of Kenya’s alcoholic beverage sector, alcohol tax structure and an alcohol simulation model.
The RESET Alcohol is an initiative that brings together national governments, civil society, research organizations, and global leaders in public health and alcohol policy to develop and implement evidence-based alcohol policies from the World Health Organization’s SAFER technical package.
The workshop brought together representatives from the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA), Anti-Counterfeit Kenya, National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), Anti-Counterfeit Kenya, Technical University of Kenya and Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA). RESET is a consortium with Johns Hopkins University (Tobacconomics team), Movendi International, Global Alcohol Policy Alliance, NCD Alliance, and the World Health Organization among others.
The workshops were facilitated by KIPPRA policy analysts Mr Boaz Munga, Ms Violet Nyabaro and Ms Laureen Karimi.
The feedback provided will enhance the RESET study in development of evidence-based policy to influence alcohol policy reforms.
