KIPPRA in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, held a policy modelling training bringing together 35 participants drawn from KIPPRA and the International Potato Centre on 20th January 2026. The training focused on building practical skills in the development, balancing, and application of Social Accounting Matrices (SAMs) as core databases for Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) policy analysis, including their use in multiplier analysis.

Participants were also taken through hands-on CGE policy analysis, covering the loading of SAM databases into CGE models, specification of equation blocks, simulation design, and the application of appropriate closure rules. The training is strengthening KIPPRA’s internal capacity in advanced policy modelling and reinforcing the Institute’s evidence-based advisory mandate.
The programme was coordinated by Shadrack Mwatu and Adan Shibia of the Economic Modelling Hub (EMH) and facilitated by Dr. Emanuele Ferrari and Dr. Victor Nechifor.
