KIPPRA Participates in Tree Planting in Geta Forest, Nyandarua County

KIPPRA staff, led by the Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi, teamed up with various stakeholders to plant indigenous and exotic trees in Geta Forest, Nyandarua County.  The exercise, which is aimed at conserving the Aberdares Ranges, took place on 6th August 2024. It drew participants from Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies under the State Department for Economic Planning, chiefs from various Nyandarua sub-locations, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, members of the Community Forest Association and students from neighbouring primary and secondary schools. The event saw planting of 10,000 trees. The county has a tree cover of 27.56 per cent, a forest cover of 26.52 per cent, and target to reach 36.6 per cent in one year.

Participants were encouraged to plant fruit trees in the next planting event as they not only conserve the environment but also provide food to humans and wildlife.

Planting trees is key in combating climate change and contributes to the government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda, which targets to accelerate the planting of 15 billion trees nationwide by 2030.
