KIPPRA staff participated in the 8th edition of “The Forest Challenge” organized by the East African Wildlife Society, Kenya Forest Service, and Kijabe Environment Volunteers. The fun-filled event, which took place at Keraita Forest on the 26th of November 2022, is an annual event launched in 2014 with the aim of raising funds to continue restoring key water towers by rehabilitating at least 600 hectares, which is an equivalent of planting 600,000 indigenous trees within 10 years. It also aims to empower local communities by purchasing seedlings from them thereby creating employment.
KIPPRA staff were organized into two teams, which finished in the 5th and 8th positions out of a total of 82 teams. Each of the 82 teams had to go through 12 challenges, which included web craw, dark tunnel, river crossing, wheelbarrow ride, slippery assent, among others. The KIPPRA team completed all 12 challenges and the money it contributed together with other institutions will be used to facilitate the planting of more trees to restore the ecosystem.
