KIPPRA actively participated in the 6th Annual Research and Innovation Conference organized by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on 4th June 2025 in Nairobi. The high-level event brought together key stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and the development sector to explore innovative pathways for advancing Kenya’s energy transition agenda.
KIPPRA was represented by its Acting Executive Director, Dr. Eldah Onsomu, who played a central role as moderator of a panel discussion titled: “Charting Kenya’s Path: Just Energy Transition and Universal Access Through Innovation.”

The session convened distinguished panelists from across the energy sector who discussed how innovation can serve as a catalyst for a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition that ensures all Kenyans—regardless of geography or income level—have access to reliable, affordable, and clean energy.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Onsomu emphasized the critical need to align energy innovations with social equity and economic inclusion. “As we embrace new technologies and cleaner energy solutions, it is essential that the transition leaves no one behind. Public policy and innovation must work hand-in-hand to ensure energy access contributes to shared prosperity,” she said.
Panelists explored a range of strategies, including leveraging digital technologies for energy efficiency, promoting community-based renewable energy solutions, and aligning national policies with climate goals while supporting vulnerable populations.
