KIPPRA Marks World Cancer Day

KIPPRA marked the World Cancer Day on 4th February 2020 with a series of health awareness activities. This year’s theme, I am I will, was a call for individuals to take part in the fight against cancer and for all to work towards getting a solution to eradicate the disease.

A team from Psychological Health Services, led by Dr. Stephen Wahome, sensitized staff on the most prevalent cancers in Kenya, their risk factors, prevention and treatment. The need for early diagnosis was emphasized to increase chances of successful treatment. The staff were also shown ways to do home tests, especially for breast cancer.

The health specialists also sensitized staff on mental health and stress management. This included learning how to recognize stress, deal with it and how to get help to ensure one fully recovers and can move forward.

The day ended with staff undertaking tests on blood sugar, blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI).

All this was courtsey of KIPPRA’s Health and Safety Committee  and the Communications team, which provided the merchandize for the day.
