KIPPRA Launches the Kenya Economic Report 2024

KIPPRA launched the Kenya Economic Report 2024 on 12th September 2024 in Nairobi. The launch ceremony was officiated by the Principal Secretary, The State Department for Economic Planning, Mr James Muhati and attended by KIPPRA Board Chair Prof. Benson Ateng’, KIPPRA Board Directors, the Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and representatives from public and private sectors.

The theme of the report is Enhancing Productivity for Sustained Inclusive Growth and provides valuable insights and strategies for driving productivity across various sectors of the economy while supporting inclusive growth and ensuring that the benefits of development are widely shared across the population. Apart from the main report, the publication also comes in an infographics version and a policy brief.

The economic report focuses on ten areas of focus, namely: macroeconomic performance; medium-term economic prospects for Kenya; increasing labour productivity in manufacturing; enhancing productivity through trade; investing in skills for a productive and dynamic workforce; transforming agricultural for enhanced productivity; re-imagining strategic partnerships in unlocking technology transfer; assessing productivity at county level; enhancing productivity in the public service and  leveraging on digitization to increase productivity in the informal economy .

The Kenya Economic Report 2024 is the 16th edition in the series of the flagship report, first published in 2009 and is prepared annually pursuant to Section 23(3) of the KIPPRA Act Cap 112A Laws of Kenya. The Report provides policy recommendations to strengthen measures to enhance productivity across various sectors, including diversifying debt sources by prioritizing the acquisition of concessional loans; adopting timely and adequate monetary policy interventions; upskilling the existing 1st and 2nd level skills among MSMEs; Modernizing market infrastructure to create a supportive business environment; and fully implementing targeted value chain development for prioritized crops to boost agricultural productivity.

Also, during the event, KIPPRA launched the County Labour Productivity Policy Briefs for the 47 counties and research ouput for Young Professionals (cohort 2023-2024). The publications can be accessed on the KIPPRA website:  www.kippra.or.ke.
