KIPPRA Joins Stakeholders to Mark World Wetlands Day

KIPPRA participated in the World Wetlands Day commemoration held on 2nd February 2026 at Lake Naivasha, under the theme “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.” The event brought together government agencies, community members, and environmental organizations to highlight the importance of preserving wetlands and the role of indigenous knowledge in conservation. The day’s main activity involved a clean-up exercise at the Lake Naivasha public beach, where participants worked collectively to restore the area and promote environmental stewardship. In addition, sensitization sessions were conducted to educate local communities on the ecological, social, and economic value of maintaining the lake’s ecosystem.

Participants called for continued awareness, community involvement, and coordinated efforts to protect Lake Naivasha and other critical ecosystems across the country.

Also in attendances were officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service, the State Department for Fisheries, Team Climate Change Organization, and members of the local community, in supporting the initiative.
