KIPPRA conducted its Mentorship Programme for Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions (KMPUT) at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK)on 19th to 20th February 2025. This initiative aims to enhance students’ understanding of public policy-making processes and encourage their active participation in shaping Kenya’s development agenda. The event was graced by KIPPRA Board Vice Chairperson, Ms Christine Wanjala, Ag. Executive, Dr Eldah Onsomu and Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hazel Miseda Mumbo.
The event brought together students, faculty members, and KIPPRA representatives for a series of interactive sessions. Discussions focused on the intricacies of public policy making process, analysis, and implementation, providing participants with practical insights into the field. The program also emphasized the importance of research and data-driven decision-making in addressing national and regional challenges. KMPUT strives to create awareness and develop capacity of the Universities and TVETs in understanding the public policy making process.

KIPPRA’s mentorship program aligns with its strategic objective to build human and institutional capacity in public policy research and analysis. By collaborating with academic institutions like GLUK, KIPPRA seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students for future roles in policy-making and public service.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with policy experts and gain a deeper understanding of the policy environment in Kenya. The interactive nature of the sessions allowed students to pose questions, share perspectives, and explore potential career paths in public policy.

This event at GLUK is part of KIPPRA’s broader efforts to foster a culture of informed policy discourse and active citizen participation among the youth. Through such mentorship programs, KIPPRA continues to contribute to the development of a knowledgeable and engaged generation capable of driving Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.
