The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) in collaboration with Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), UNICEF, UN-Women and UNDP launched the County Budget Briefs, County Poverty Briefs and Women Empowerment Briefs on 10th August 2020. The
The reports are planning blueprints that are expected to bridge the gap between needs and allocation of resources. The recommendations will guide county governments in allocating resources to youth, women and children initiatives based on the evidence depicted in the briefs.
Among the keynote speakers during the successful virtual launch were: The Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and ASAL Mr Eugene Wamalwa, Cabinet Secretary for Public Services and Gender Prof. Margret Kobia, Kakamega County Governor and Chair to Council of Governors Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, UN Resident Coordinator Dr Siddharth Chatterjee, UNICEF Kenya representative Ms Maniza Zaman, UN-Women representative Ms Anna Mutavati and KNBS Director General Mr Zacharia Mwangi.
Moderating the first and second sessions of the launch were Principal Secretary, National Treasury and Planning Mr Saitoti Torome and Principal Secretary, State Department for Gender Prof. Collette Suda, respectively.
KIPPRA Executive director Dr Rose Ngugi presented the 47 County Budget Briefs that covered the period 2014/15 to 2017/18. The briefs, which were developed by KIPPRA, give a snapshot of the budget status in counties, with a review on Gross County product (GCP) contribution to the Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP); county revenue; health; early childhood development education; water and sanitation (WASH); child nutrition and protection as well as budget execution and data disaggregation. Dr Ngugi also gave the way forward and closing remarks.
The reports were officially launched by the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Planning Hon. Amb. Ekur Yatani.
