KIPPRA, in collaboration with the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), held a hybrid workshop to discuss domestics savings in Sub-Saharan Africa. The workshop was part of a research project on domestics savings shortfall in developing countries, which KIPPRA is undertaking in conjunction with UNU-WIDER.
The event took place on 16th and 17th March 2022 and involved presentation of research work on various issues related to domestic savings in Sub-Saharan Africa, including capital markets, public saving and sovereign wealth funds, and fintech.
The project examines the role of domestic savings in delivering inclusive development and reducing poverty. It aims to deliver both global findings as well as a systematic comparison of country experiences to address important and relevant policy questions in this area. The workshop was attended by KIPPRA Executive Dr Rose Ngugi, UNU-WIDER Director Prof Sen Kunal Sen, AERC-AFRICA Executive Director Prof Njuguna Ndungú and authors of various book chapters and discussants.
