KIPPRA participated in the CGIAR Policy Innovations Hub Kenya Launch and Policy Dialogue held at Nairobi, under the theme “A Policy Innovations Hub for Kenya: Co-Creating Evidence for Agri-Food System Transformation” on 25th February 2026. The dialogue convened senior policymakers, researchers, and development partners to deliberate on how co-created evidence can more effectively inform the implementation of Kenya’s agri-food system transformation agenda and shape the country’s Beyond 2030 development strategy.
KIPPRA made substantive contributions across two high-level panel sessions with Senior Policy Analyst, Mr Adan Shibia participating in the panel discussion on “What Do We Know? Using Co-Created Evidence to Inform Current Policy.” The session examined how existing research is influencing policy decisions relating to fertilizer subsidy reforms, irrigation expansion, livestock disease control, youth engagement in agriculture, and broader food systems transformation.

Further, our Executive Director, Dr Eldah Onsomu contributed to the panel on “Where Are the Gaps in Evidence and Constraints in Policy Implementation? – Implementation Challenges and Trade-offs Facing Policymaking.”

The discussion interrogated the practical constraints facing policymakers, including investment prioritization, sequencing of reforms, fiscal trade-offs, and the balancing of productivity, resilience, inclusion, and nutrition objectives. Dr Onsomu underscored the importance of anticipatory policymaking supported by collaboration and co-creation among the various stakeholders in agrifood systems.
