Fun, Games and Learning at KIPPRA Staff Team Building

KIPPRA staff participated in an exciting team building event in Naivasha on 28th and 29th April 2023. The event mostly entailed outdoor activities with several lessons.

The first day began with a brief indoor session involving creating introductions that gave all the staff, young professionals, research assistants, temporary staff, interns and those on attachment a chance to know more about each better. The session also saw climate-setting and motivational speeches from the Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi and the three directors – Dr Moses Muthinja (Directorate of Integrated Development), Dr Eldah Onsomu (Directorate of Economic Management) and Ms Irene Mithia (Directorate of Corporate Services).

Dr Ngugi thanked all the staff for their efforts towards the delivery of the Institute’s mandate. She noted that KIPPRA had recently marked its 25th anniversary and the team building provided an opportunity to reflect on journey and chart the way forward.

The HR and Admin Deputy Director Ms Monica Sifuna gave a few remarks and introduced the facilitators consisting of a team from the Kenya School of Government. After a brief overview of the activities ahead, it was time to head outdoors to the expansive field at Lake Naivasha Resort.

Each of the well-thought out, creative and often rib-cracking activities was followed by brief sessions of reflection and identification of lessons the teams could implement to synergize and carry out their tasks effectively and efficiently.

The first day wound down with a dinner, music and dance where staff showcased their best moves and singing skills through a karaoke performance.

The second day of the team building began with a tree-planting event at the Kenya Wildlife Research and Training Institute (KWSTI) where staff planted 1,000 trees. This was followed by more outdoor team-building activities. By evening, all agreed that the teambuilding was one of the most memorable and impactful events they had ever participated in.
