In delivering on its core mandate, KIPPRA undertakes various capacity building activities for the government and private sector stakeholders through tailor-made short training courses. The capacity building activities are aimed at building human and institutional capabilities to strengthen evidenced-based policy making process. The activities are centered on public policy formulation, policy research and analysis and economic forecasting. In addition, the Institute runs a one (1) year Young Professional programme and short term internship and industrial attachment programme.
Young Professionals (YPs) Programme
The Young Professionals (YPs) programme is the flagship capacity building programme of the Institute targeting officers in the public and private sectors. Every year, the Institute recruits ten to twelve officers from the government and private sector for the one-year training programme. During the programme, the officers undergo rigorous training in public policy analysis and formulation through hands-on training. The courses offered include: public policy process, research methodology, applied econometrics, macroeconomic modelling, and government operations. The Young Professionals actively participate in all the activities of the Institute, and write a research paper on a selected policy issue as a requirement for graduation. Upon graduation, Young Professionals return to their duty stations where they are expected to play a key role in policy formulation.
Internship and Industrial Attachment Programmes
The Institute offers Industrial Attachment and Internship Programmes designed to help students undertaking and finalized their undergraduate courses respectively to understand the Institute’s mandate, programmes, and operations. These programmes also help students to apply what they learn in class by undertaking relevant work assignments preparing them for their future career.
