KIPPRA held a tree planting ceremony on 4 April 2014 at the University of Nairobi’s Veterinary Farm (Kanyariri) in a bid to conserve the environment and preserve its aesthetic value. During the ceremony whose theme was Greener Cleaner Environment, more than 5,000 tree seedlings were planted. To mark this event, KIPPRA collaborated with College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid-Tropics (ICRISAT).
The chief guest Dr John Omiti, Executive Director of KIPPRA, urged those present to plant as many trees as they can to conserve the environment. The tree planting initiative is one of KIPPRA’s efforts towards environment conservation. A similar event was held last year.
Also during the event, Dennis Kimanzi, KIPPRA’s Senior Human Resource Officer, sensitized those present on taking precaution against drug abuse and contracting HIV/AIDS so as to conserve human life.
