The Young Professionals (YPs) programme is the flagship capacity building programme of the Institute targeting officers in the public and private sectors. Every year, the Institute recruits 10 to 12 officers from the government and private sector for the one-year training programme. However, there has been an increasing demand for the programme and this financial year (2018/2019), KIPPRA admitted 14 officers.

The YPs are currently undertaking a joint project titled “Understanding national polices and development goals – analysis of Kenya Vision 2030, Big Four Agenda and Fiscal Budget 2018/19″. In the course of the project, the YPs made presentations of their findings in a KIPPRA Weekly Internal Seminar (KWIS), as displayed in the  photos.

During the programme, the officers also undergo rigorous training in public policy analysis and formulation through hands-on training. The courses offered include: public policy process, research methodology, applied econometrics, government operations and training on the KIPPRA-Treasury Macro Model (KTMM) to quip the learners with macroeconomic tools of analysis and forecasting.

The YPs also actively participate in all the activities of the Institute, and write a research paper on a selected policy issue as a requirement for graduation. Upon graduation, Young Professionals return to their duty stations where they are expected to play a key role in policy formulation.
